COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The recovery effort continues for the dozens of people left homeless by the fire Monday that gutted much of the Coldwater Inn motel on the city’s west side. A temporary Red Cross office has been set up at the Coach Eby Center in downtown Coldwater where the former residents of the Motel have been asked to show up Friday to meet with Red Cross representatives.
Those displaced by the fire are being housed at a new site now, the Coldwater School District’s former Franklin Alternative High School in Girard. Branch County United Way Executive Director Judy Krzeminski a number of local businesses have stepped forward to help feed the 40 to 60 people on hand, with Adult and Pediatric Dental Care supplying lunch Thursday, Ponderosa furnishing part of the evening meal, and Bob Evans providing lunch Friday.
Food like cereal, milk, peanut butter, bread, and spaghetti and sauce can be dropped off at the Coach Eby Center. No more clothes are needed, and Krzeminski is asking that you hang on to any household item donations until permanent housing is found.
