COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Education last night had an up close and personal visit from one of the brightest students at Coldwater High School, a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, a rare commodity as CHS or any high school for that matter. Senior Jessica Leviton is one of only 14,000 NMS finalists in the U.S. and she is hoping to learn before the end of next month whether she’ll join the select group of 8,000 finalists who will receive a National Merit scholarship award.
Jessica admitted to the School Board that the academic competition to this point has been long and sometimes tedious but she considers it a great honor to be a finalist. Leviton plans to attend the University of Michigan with a potential double major in math and physics leading to a career as a theoretical physicist.
A member of the Board of Education asked her how long she expects to stay in school and she said she’s not sure but believes she’ll be going for her doctorate , in her words, “ Just because I need to know everything”, a comment that drew a chuckle from the Board and the audience.
Jessica is the daughter of Randy and Carla Ram Leviton.
