COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -The Coldwater Board of Education will meet in regular session for the first time tonight since the failure of two bond proposals May 5. During the campaign, school officials had said there were a number of technology and safety upgrades that were needed to meet new state mandates. Instead of being paid for by the bonds, they will now have to be paid for through the general fund.
The board did hold a workshop last week discussing their options. The district was already facing a budget shortfall, resulting in the layoff of a number of teachers and support staff for next year.
The Bronson Board of Education last week also approved the layoff of two teachers and one custodian to make their budget work.
The Coldwater Board of Education meets tonight at 6 p.m. in the district’s Administrative Service Center on Sauk Drive.
