COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Exchange Club last night honored Patsy Karbon with its highest service award, the 2015 Book of Golden Deeds. The Book of Golden Deeds award is in recognition of one’s giving of their time and talents to make our community a better place to live. The award was first presented in 1919 by an Exchange Club in Hamilton, Indiana.
Patsy is the 34th recipient of the award given by the Coldwater Exchange Club. Patsy, a native of Muskegon, has resided in many communities in Michigan, partially due the career of her husband Jim with the Michigan State Police. For the last 20 years they have resided in Coldwater where she has had a significant positive impact on the community.
The Exchange Club said Patsy is truly an advocate for the protection of individuals, their rights and their protection. The Club says everything she turns her high energy and enthusiasm to becomes successful. She is a volunteer at the Free Methodist Church as a strong mentor for young women. She also has been very active and involved with the Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Council and the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She has also been the inspiration, heart, and soul behind the formation of the Girlz Club which is providing a resource for 8-15 year old girls to air their issues and be supported, while gaining confidence to grow into strong confident women.
In 2008, after having been a paraprofessional with Coldwater schools working with emotionally impaired children, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Spring Arbor University, and she set off on her current vocation as the Program coordinator for CASA which is the Court Appointed Special Advocate, a program that serves as an independent voice and advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children who are temporary wards of the court.
