COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The 18th annual Branch County Relay-for-Life American Cancer Society fund drive has realized pledges and donations of nearly $66,000 for cancer research and support programs with this year’s 24-hour event ending at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Branch County Fairgrounds in Coldwater. It was the second year the relay was held at the fairgrounds and for the second straight year, the schedule on Saturday included a rainy and windy setting but the elements didn’t deter the spirts of the 27 teams on site.
This year’s top business-church group fund raiser was St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Coldwater with just over $12,000 and St. Mark’s also won the best site decorations award. The most spirited team honor went to Team Meijer, which also finished first in the points race. The runner-up in points was the First Congregational Church of Bronson. This year’s Best Baton honor went to Team Terry. The New Team Award was presented to Nutrition Expression.
Collections for this year’s Relay For Life will continue until August 31st while the 2015 wrap up party victory dinner is set for July 16th.
