COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A dark-colored minivan caused multiple traffic hazards before crashing and stopping near Rotary Park on Tuesday, leading deputies on a brief pursuit along U.S. 12. According to a news release from the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, central dispatchers first alerted deputies to the reckless vehicle as it traveled eastbound near Weaver Road.
Witnesses reported the minivan weaving erratically across the roadway, altering speeds unpredictably, and crossing the center line, nearly striking oncoming westbound traffic.
Although deputies located the vehicle near Branch Road and attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over and continued driving eastbound, eventually striking a guardrail near Rotary Park.
The incident came to an end after the minivan attempted to turn into Rotary Park at a slow speed, striking a stop sign before finally coming to a halt.
Upon contacting the driver, identified as a 70-year-old woman from Sturgis, deputies discovered she was experiencing an active medical emergency.
LifeCare Ambulance was immediately dispatched to the scene and transported the woman to Insight Hospital in Coldwater for treatment.
