BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Authorities across Branch County reported no serious incidents on the roadways or lakes around the area over the long 4th of July holiday weekend, although a garage fire near a home in Bronson Township yesterday afternoon caused an estimated $9,000 damage. The blaze at 419 Prairie River Road broke out around 4 p.m. at the Steve Weller residence. Bronson Fire Chief Brent Wilber said it was sparked by a fire pit too close to the structure.
The 16 foot by 30 foot one story garage was a standalone but only around 25 feet from the Weller home. Firemen had the blaze extinguished in 15 minutes. The garage contents included two boats, a hot tub, and some furniture.
The fire department was on the job for around an hour.
