COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Rising property values in Branch County indicate an economy that is continuing a slow but steady recovery after reaching a low point in 2012 since the beginning of the Great Recession seven years ago. This year’s annual County Equalization Department report was submitted to Branch County Commissioners on Tuesday.
The SEV state equalized value on all property in the county for 2015 has been listed at $1.792 billion. That’s just $31 million below the high point reached in 2008. The latest figure represents a major one year improvement of $122 million from 2014 to 2015.
The City of Coldwater currently leads the way in the county’s taxable property value at 24% of the total while Ovid Township is second at 12%. The assessed values are reviewed by the local boards of review in March and those final assessments are equalized by the County Board of Commissioners in April.
The County Equalized Values determined by the Board that were submitted to the State Tax Commission became final as of May 26, 2015.
