COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan ranks 26th nationally in a new study of the deadliest states for summer driving, with 935 road fatalities recorded between June and August from 2022 to 2024.
Analyzing U.S. Department of Transportation data, FLBR Motorsport found that summer crashes account for 30.29% of all Michigan’s annual road fatalities, resulting in a rate of 9.21 deaths per 100,000 residents.
While the study identifies Wyoming, Montana, and Mississippi as the most dangerous states for summer travel, Michigan’s seasonal fatality rate places it in the middle of the national rankings.
The findings indicate that nearly a third of the state’s total road deaths occur during the summer months, prompting safety concerns regarding increased congestion and construction.
