Road funding bills in limbo until August

LANSING, MI (WTVB) – There apparently is no daylight at the end of the road funding dispute tunnel that lawmakers in Lansing are in right now. According to MIRS News, 19 state House Republicans aren’t supporting a 1.4 billion-dollar annual road-funding package sent from the Senate, which effectively scuttles any hope of its passage. The biggest stumbling block is a phased-in, 15-cent gas tax increase through the end of next year. The House had passed a 1.1 billion-dollar proposal last month, parts of which were included in the Senate plan. The Lower Chamber is off until mid-August, while the Upper Chamber will take up other matters until the House votes on its proposal.
