COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says Rose Lake in Bethel Township was the scene of an injury accident Wednesday afternoon when an SUV went into the water. Deputies were dispatched after 9-1-1 received a call about a vehicle and a boat trailer submerged in the lake at the Fiesta Shores access point with the occupants still in the car. However, upon arrival, deputies found the people out of the SUV and out of the water with minor injuries.
According to a news release, the driver of the car, 68-year old Ann Kubicz from Toledo, Ohio was backing the trailer into the water to load the boat and exited the vehicle as it was still in reverse gear. Kubicz tried to get back into SUV to stop it from sinking any further but both the vehicle and trailer went into the lake with the car submerged up to the middle of the windows.
Kubicz hurt her leg and sought medical treatment later. No one else was injured. A local resident saw the accident and went into the water to assist Kubicz to shore. The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
