LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Gov. Rick Snyder ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the state Capitol complex to be lowered to half-staff on Monday to honor former state Sen. Harry Gast, who passed away on Thursday. “Sen. Gast reminds us all of the value of public service,” Snyder said. “He had a long and respected tenure at the local and state levels, serving his community and Michigan well. He also reminds us of a time before term limits when the legislature was full of old hands who knew how government worked and knew how to get things done. Visitation for Gast will be Sunday and services Monday in St. Joseph.
