COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A small portion of the west side of the City of Coldwater lost power for nearly six hours this morning apparently because of a lightning strike that hit after most of the Sunday night thunderstorm activity had passed by. The outage was reported to 9-1-1 around 4:45 a.m. when a resident along Western Avenue heard what sounded like a transformer explosion.
Coldwater Board of Public Utility crews found that three transformers had been struck by the lightning. The electricity was fully restored by 10:30 a.m. The outage affected approximately 20 homes along Hatch Avenue west of Green Street and also Western Avenue, north of U.S. 12 to Heritage Park as well as Penn Court.
