STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – A man who rushed at Sturgis Police officers with a large wood club is sitting in the St. Joseph County Jail awaiting formal charges this morning. By the time the first officers arrived, the suspect had already beaten another man with that club. The victim suffered a number of facial injuries and was taken to Sturgis Hospital late Tuesday night.
Officers found their suspect holed-up in a nearby apartment in the 1300 block of Cato Lane. When they confronted him and he rushed at officers with that club, they zapped him with tasers and he was soon handcuffed and subdued.
The 31-year old Sturgis man is being held for aggravated assault and numerous counts of felonious assault of a Police Officer. Bond is pending.
