COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, one of the first preseason football polls that ranks Michigan’s top 50 teams has one school included from the Interstate Eight, the conference that Coldwater helped launch last year in the league’s debut season. The rankings released this week by M-Live show the defending Interstate Eight Champion Jackson Lumen Christi Titans as the 46th best team in the state heading into the 2015 season.
Coldwater finished second to the Titans in the I-8 last fall with a 6-1 record with the Cardinals only conference loss coming to Lumen Christi in a 35-24 week six setback at Jackson. The Titans lone defeat last year was in their 12th game when they fell in the MHSAA playoffs in the Regional Finals. Coldwater finished with an 8-2 record, bowing out in the first weekend of the playoffs in a pre-district loss to Stevensville-Lakeshore.
The Cardinals’ matchup with Lumen Christi this season will be on October 2 for Homecoming in Coldwater. The Cardinals open their schedule at home against Hastings on August 28.
The 2015 fall season in Branch County high school sports is scheduled to start tomorrow with Coldwater girls golf and Bronson boys tennis. Also coming up later this there are season openers in boys soccer, volleyball and cross country.
