BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department deputies were asked to check out some suspicious door to door salesmen in Eckford Township and ended up arresting a suspected killer. One of the group had marijuana and gave a fake name. A fingerprint check identified the man as convicted kidnapper and rapist Donnel Ramonte Rawls who was being sought on an active warrant out of Georgia for allegedly beating his pregnant girlfriend to death last February. Atlanta investigators called it the most gruesome killing they had ever seen.
There was a $10,000 reward posted for his capture. The 40-year-old Rawls will be held in the Calhoun County Jail until extradition back to Georgia can be arranged.
