COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school volleyball Wednesday, Coldwater lost at home 3-0 to Parma Western. The visiting Panthers won the Interstate Eight Conference matchup 25-22, 25-16, 25-21. Our McDonald’s Player of the Match for Coldwater for her strong hitting on the night was Jasmine Wellet. The outcome left both teams with 1-2 records in the I-8 while Coldwater’s overall record slips to 7-13-4.
There was a split in last night’s reserve matches. Coldwater beat the Parma Western JV team 2-0. Emilee Smoker had 10 assists with 7 kills for Malorie Rzepka and 8 digs for Hunter Jenkot. The Coldwater freshmen fell to the Panthers 2-1 with 6 kills for Jordan Clemens while Anna Tappenden had 6 aces, 4 digs and 4 assists.
Also in volleyball, it was Block Out Cancer Night at Bronson where the Class-C top ranked Lady Vikings defeated Centreville 3-0. The fundraising total for the cancer prevention and awareness effort was over $4,000. Leading the way in the Bronson victory over the Bulldogs were Alexa Ratkowski with 30 assists and 7 aces, Jill Pyles and Kirin Cekander with 9 kills apiece, and Kiera Lasky with 17 digs. The Lady Vikings improved to 4-0 in BCS Conference play with their overall record at 29-6-2.
Coming up tonight in high school sports, in boys soccer, it’s a varsity only match for Coldwater at Harper Creek while Quincy hosts Calhoun Christian. In volleyball, Coldwater is on the road for a tri-meet at Brooklyn Columbia Central while Quincy is at Hanover-Horton. In Girls golf, Coldwater plays in the Interstate 8 Conference Championship meet at the Bedford Valley Golf Course. In junior varsity football tonight, Coldwater is at Jackson Lumen Christi, Quincy hosts Reading and Union City is at home against Jonesville.
