CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Calhoun County authorities are calling the bike-van collision that killed Dr. Gregory Harrington just over a week ago a terrible tragedy that was not the fault of either the van driver or the Doctor. He was apparently another victim of Michigan’s crumbling roads.
An accident reconstructionist confirms accounts from inside the van that Harrington’s bike hit a bit of crumbling pavement along M-78 and was thrown from his bike, directly into the path of the van, which was being driven by a 15-year-old with a learner’s permit. Sheriff Matt Saxton tells the Battle Creek Enquirer that the age, skill or experience of the driver would have made no difference.
Dr. Harrington was peddling to Lansing to catch the Michigan State/Central Michigan game the next day when the accident occurred.
