DOVER, DE – Rain canceled all activity at Dover International Speedway yesterday. The starting grid for tomorrow’s Sprint Cup AAA 400 was set based on current points standings, meaning Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, and Carl Edwards will start 1-2-3 for the the first elimination race in this year’s Chase for the Sprint Cup. The 16-driver Chase field will be narrowed to 12 at the conclusion of the race.
With Hurricane Joaquin on the horizon, an article on NASCAR.com points out that if the race at Dover is postponed due to rain, next Saturday’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway would become the first elimination race in this year’s Chase.
