COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two sports programs, tennis and swimming, operating in the City of Coldwater partly in conjunction with the Coldwater school system were in focus last night at a meeting of the Coldwater Board of Education. The school board adopted a resolution to seek out a partnership with the City to build new tennis courts at Heritage Park to replace the run down courts at the park that are nearly 40 years old.
It’s an estimated $1 million project and the school district would contribute $200,000 to the task. Some of the other funding would come from private donations, which are already being collected. There were discussions of maybe relocating the tennis courts to school property across the street on land near Legg Middle School but that option has been ruled out.
It was also revealed last night that interest has been shown by Quincy schools of joining the just started swimming program at Coldwater High School with the idea of a so-called cooperative swimming team to compete at the Brown Aquatic Center. The concept is also going to be suggested to Bronson Schools to see there is any interest there.
