COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’s Decision Day across Michigan but it’s expected to be a very quiet 2015 election at the polls in Branch County. The only local voting is happening in Coldwater for a handful of uncontested City Council seats and for a small section of the east side of the county which is part of the Camden Frontier School District of Hillsdale County, where they are seeking a renewal of a building and site sinking fund levy.
Running with no opposition in Coldwater for another two year term is Mayor Tom Kramer. And there are no races for the 4-year City Council terms for incumbents Cisco Ortiz in the First Ward, Chris Pierce in the Second Ward, Maureen Petzko in the Third Ward and Heather Peet in the Fourth Ward. There’s also Second Ward Councilmember Gretchen Ennis, who is running to complete the rest of her term which expires in November of 2017 after she was appointed to the Council in August of 2014 to the seat previously held by Toby Kirk. Voting in Coldwater happens at the Dearth Community Center.
There are numerous municipal elections across the state today along with a number of ballot questions and millage issues. Probably the most watched contests will be in Allegan and Lapeer counties where disgraced Republican State lawmakers Cindy Gamrat of Plainwell and Todd Courser of Lapeer will try to recapture their House seats after leaving the legislature following their romantic relationship and attempts to cover it up.
