KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – The San Bernadino mass killings yesterday in California have once again sparked the debate over whether there should be tighter restrictions on gun sales and ownership. Two professors from the Western Michigan University Cooley Law School were already scheduled last night to debate the issue of guns in schools.
Professor Steve Dulan says the last thing a mass murderer wants to find is someone else with a gun. But professor David Tarrien says more guns means more gun accidents, so let the pros handle the relatively rare live-shooter incidents.
Michigan courts and lawmakers are currently grappling with the issue of banning guns in schools. Just this week the courts upheld the right of Universities in Michigan to ban guns because of their special constitutional right to autonomy. That right would not apply to public schools.
