WMU political science professor encouraged by Paris Climate Summit

KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – A Western Michigan University political science professor says he’s encouraged by discussions this week at the Paris Climate Summit. Dr. Paul Clements says UN members will leave the talks with first-time-ever binding commitments from advanced and developing countries to reduce emissions. Clements understands that it’s not going to allow for the needed cuts in carbon emissions that stop global warming at two degrees that all of the scientists say is the necessary level to halt it but at least it’s indicating never before seen real substantial progress. Clements led a march to U.S. Rep. Fred Upton’s office in Kalamazoo on Friday night, urging the congressman and other Republicans to embrace data from climate scientists who claim global warming is  man-made. House Republicans approved legislation earlier this week blocking some federal greenhouse gas regulations.
