COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater girls soccer team opened its season at home Monday with a 1-1 tie against non-conference Three Rivers. After a scoreless first half, freshman Malorie Rzepka got the Cardinals on the scoreboard with 33 minutes to play in the second half, assisted by Madison Marsh. Three Rivers tied the score with 23 minutes to play on a rebound off a save from goalkeeper Nadia Kiersey.
Kiersey ended up making 10 saves in her first varsity game. Three Rivers outshot Coldwater 12-11 in the game. The Lady Cardinals will host Sturgis Wednesday.
The Coldwater JV soccer team opened their season with a win, getting a goal from Hunter Jenkot with just under 3 minutes to play for the 1-0 victory over Three Rivers. Brooke Neitzert got the assist. Whitney Johnson was in goal, but made no saves as Coldwater outshot ThreeRivers 16-0.
The Coldwater girls tennis team fell to Vicksburg 5-3 Monday. Five of the eight matches went the full three sets. Winning for Coldwater were Emma Grife at first singles, Sophia Mongardi at second singles and the third doubles team of Allison Eastmead and Brooke Lafferty.
The Bronson at Homer baseball and girls softball varsity games on Monday were called off. They have been rescheduled for Wednesday afternoon. Both doubleheaders at Homer will start at 4:00pm. Meanwhile, the J.V. baseball game between Homer and Bronson has been rescheduled for Wednesday afternoon in Bronson starting at 4:30pm.
Today’s high school schedule includes Coldwater’s baseball and softball teams at Union City for doubleheaders, whiel Quincy will play baseball and softball doubleheaders at Olivet.
In girls soccer, Quincy will host Marshall Academy.
