LITCHFIELD, MI (WTVB) – A Litchfield man was killed Friday afternoon when his vehicle crashed into the back of a manure wagon in Hillsdale County.
The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department says the accident took place at about 2:45pm on West Litchfield Road between Wade and Hadley Roads.
They say 59-year-old David Elwyn Dingee of Litchfield was driving a tractor that was pulling the manure wagon when he slowed to turn into a lane on the south side of West Litchfield Road.
The wagon was then struck in the rear by a westbound 2014 Chevrolet Silverado which was driven by 64-year-old Daniel Dean Pitts.
Pitts was taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County where he was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff’s Department says seat belts were used and the accident is still under investigation. They were assisted by Litchfield Police, firefighters from Litchfield and Homer as well as the Reading Emergency Unit.
