COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners decided during their work session on Thursday to bring forward a resolution to next week’s meeting which authorizes the Branch County Building Authority to finance an $11.25 million expansion at the Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility.
The facility will expand by nearly 18,000 square feet. Maple Lawn Administrator Jane Sabaitis says the project will result in private rooms increasing from 22 to 80. There would also be 17 semi private rooms as well as major renovations to the main kitchen.
Sabaitis said the project will also create family meeting and conference space for the dementia and rehabilitation units. The current facility was built in 1989 and Sabaitis says it needs updates to meet standards in the industry.
Bond Counsel Peter Ecklund says funding will come through a 30 year bond issue through the Building Authority. He said the resolution was the first step which allows the county to publish a notice of intent.
