COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Bronson won the 23rd annual Stout and Sons championship on Saturday night at Lowe Field in Coldwater with a 7-1 victory over Carleton-Airport. Winning pitcher Ethan Cossairt went the distance on a three hitter. Bryce Withington and Thadd Herman both had two run doubles while Daniel McMichael had three of the 10 Viking hits.
Bronson advanced to the finals with a 12-0 victory over Sturgis and a 9-5 win over Eastside from Butler, Indiana. McMichael was the winning pitcher in both games as he tossed a three hitter against Sturgis and came on in relief to get the win over Eastside. Cossairt, Brenden Bell, Brett Sikorski, Noah Roberts, McMichael and Withington all had two RBI’s against Sturgis. Sikorski and Tyler Roussey both drove in two runs against Eastside. Bronson is now 22-7.
Coldwater finished third in the tournament. They lost to Carleton-Airport 5-2, thumped Lansing Sexton 16-0 and rallied from a 10-2 deficit to defeat Sturgis 14-13. Carleton-Airport scored three runs in the last of the sixth to defeat the Cardinals. Brendan Spangler, Austin Krzeminski and Collin Torrey all had two hits for Coldwater. Mitch Duda had two RBI’s against Sexton while Bryce Barringer had two hits. Branden Lewis and Krzeminski both had two hits. Cameron Barnes was the winning pitcher.
Brayton Rzepka’s two run single drove in the tying and winning runs in the Cardinals win over Sturgis. Spangler had three hits while Sean Printke got the win in relief. Trailing 10-2, Coldwater scored nine in the last of the fourth to take a 11-10 lead. Sturgis scored three in the top of the sixth but Coldwater responded with three in the bottom half to claim the win. The Cardinals are now 24-6.
Union City unveiled their new Alumni Field scoreboard and swept Pittsford on Saturday by scores of 3-1 and 5-1. First game winning pitcher Seth Bruce tossed a four-hitter, did not walk a batter and struck out 10. Colton Johns struck out 11 in five innings to get the win in the nightcap. Blake Gordon pitched the final two innings to get the save. Johns doubled in the first game while Eli Way had two hits in the nightcap. The Chargers are now 17-10-1.
Coldwater’s J.V. Baseball team won the Angola Invitational as they defeated Angola 9-4 and Heritage 9-1. Lucas Santure and Austin Spray were the winning pitchers. Alex Everett Cody both earned saves. Austin Roby and Santure had three hits against Angola. Roby drove in three runs against Heritage. He along with Ethan Wiley, Spray, Santure and Oliver Winter all had two hits in the championship game. The J.V. Cardinals are now 19-4.
—GIRLS SOFTBALL—
Coldwater won their Invitational Tournament on Saturday as they defeated Lansing Sexton 11-1 and Mendon 6-3. Stacy Guzy was the winning pitcher against Sexton. Tyler Schied tripled while Kendall Galloway and Avery Milms both had two hits against the Big Reds. Coldwater built a 5-0 lead after two innings in the title game against Mendon and hung on for the win. Schied was the winning pitcher as she tossed a complete game and struck out seven. Katie Stanton had a two run double, Galloway tripled while Payton Watson and Gabby Seiler both had two hits.
Bronson finished third in the tournament. They lost to Mendon 2-1 but came back to defeat Lansing Sexton 11-0 in the consolation game. Allie Sikorski tossed a no hitter against Sexton as she struck out nine. Payton Robinson drove in two runs while Kiera Lasky and Adyson Lasky both had two hits. Ashton Wronikowski had two hits and drove in the Vikings only run against Mendon. Bronson’s record is now 16-11.
Coldwater’s J.V. girls softball team finished second in their portion of the Invitational Tournament. Coldwater defeated Gull Lake 10-0 but lost to Angola in the finals 12-0. Emma Stanley was the winning pitcher against Gull Lake while Carly Duke and Jordan Clemens both doubled. The J.V. Cardinals are now 23-7.

Adrian Madison won the girls title while Hillsdale captured the boys championship on Saturday at the Division Three Track Regional meet hosted by Quincy. The host Orioles were third in the girls standings while Union City was 14th and Bronson was 17th. Quincy was seventh in the boys standings while Union City was ninth and Bronson was 15th.
Quincy’s Bryce Ruhl won the regional title in the boys high jump as he cleared six feet, two inches and finished fourth in the long jump. Union City’s boys 400 relay team also won a regional title. Jalen Boes of Union City was second in the boys long jump. Quincy’s Ryan Gibson was third in the boys 200.
Rachel Wing of Union City was second while Kayla Hayes of Quincy was third in the girls discus. Katie Spaulding of Quincy was third in the girls pole vault, sixth in the 300 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles. Quincy’s Gabby Porter was third in the girls 1600 and 3200. Quincy’s girls were second in the 400 relay while Union City was 10th.

While the Coldwater boys won the Division Two Regional title at Mason on Friday, the Coldwater girls were ninth and they had two qualifiers for the state finals. Malorie Rzepka qualified to go to State in the high jump as she finished fifth by clearing five feet, two inches. Jasmine Wellet qualified to go to State with a third place finish in the 100 hurdles and a new Personal Record of 16.11. Other PR’s were recorded by Allison Butler in the 200, Kaci White in the shot put and discus and Claire Sheppard in the 100 hurdles. The 800 relay team of Samantha Rodesiler, Rzepka, Sheppard and Butler and the 400 relay team of Wellet, Rzepka, Sheppard and Butler both recorded new PR times.

Jackson 2, Coldwater 0
The Coldwater girls varsity soccer team lost to Jackson 2-0 in non conference action on Saturdayafternoon. Nadia Kiersey made eight saves in goal as Coldwater was outshot 13-3. Coldwater is now 7-4-5 overall. They will play at Marshall Monday in the first round of the Interstate 8 Gold Division Conference Tournament. The Coldwater J.V. team played to a 2-2 draw with Jackson on Saturday.
