COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – For the second straight year, a state budget stalemate in Lansing has forced Coldwater Community Schools Chief Financial Officer Rachelle Roby to put together the district’s budget for the upcoming year by using estimated figures.
The Coldwater Board of Education formally approved the district’s 2026-2027 projected General Fund budget Monday night.
Roby said they are anticipating a $250 per pupil increase from the state but she cautioned they don’t know what might be taken away.
The budget includes a two percent salary increase for all staff members in the district.
She said the budget includes two new Multilingual Learner positions at Max Larson Elementary with another one at Jefferson. There will also be nine new instructional paraprofessionals and a Student Success coordinator at Larson.
A human resource director along with an assistant have been created for the Administration Building. The budget also includes new playground equipment at Larson, parking lot renovations and a P.A. system upgrade at the high school.
Roby said the district’s fund balance for the next fiscal year is expected to go up to 27 percent.
