COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Members of Boys Scouts Troop 433 in Coldwater burned hundreds of retired American flags on Tuesday night at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Scoutmaster Jerry Hage says the flags are treated with proper respect before they are put into the fire.Taps are played and a program is conducted as the flags are burned. The ashes are then buried.
He says the flags are collected from VFW posts from Coldwater, Bronson and Quincy. Other worn flags were also turned in.
It was estimated at least 500 flags which filled up the beds of two pickup trucks were donated for the ceremony.
