UNDATED (WTVB) – The 2015-16 prep sports season for Branch County schools came to an end Saturday following the second and final day of the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Boys Golf Finals and the conclusion of Baseball and Softball Regionals, where no teams from the county were able to advance to Tuesday’s Quarterfinal round.
MHSAA DIVISION 2 LP BOYS GOLF FINALS AT BEDFORD VALLEY GOLF COURSE, BATTLE CREEK
Coldwater followed up its round of 314 on Friday with a 316 on Saturday to finish in 9th place out of 15 teams with a two-day combined score of 630. St. Johns won the state title with a 2-day score of 597. Individual scores for the Cardinals are below (name – first day score – second day score – combined score):

MHSAA DIVISION 2 BASEBALL & SOFTBALL REGIONALS AT STEVENSVILLE LAKESHORE
The Cardinal baseball team’s season came to an end during the first Regional Semifinal game at Lancer Field. Niles eliminated Coldwater 5-1 and won the Regional title by beating Sturgis 12-1. In the other Regional Semifinal game, Sturgis advanced with a 10-5 win over South Haven. The Division 2 top-ranked Cardinals wrap up their season with a 31-10 record.
A few hundred yards away at Betty Kohn Field, Coldwater’s hopes for a Regional championship were thwarted by the Vicksburg Bulldogs, who 3-hit the Lady Cards 10-0 in the title game. Earlier in the Regional Semifinals, Vicksburg mounted a late-inning comeback to eliminate St. Joseph 5-4, while Coldwater took care of business against Edwardsburg 8-4. The Cardinals finish the season with a 31-7 record.
MHSAA DIVISION 3 BASEBALL & SOFTBALL REGIONALS AT LESLIE
Bronson’s baseball team went extra innings in both of their Regional games. The Vikings fell to defending Division 3 champion Jackson Lumen Christi 8-7 in 8 innings in the Regional Final and needed 9 innings to get past Ovid-Elsie 2-0 in the Regional Semifinal. Lumen advanced to the Regional Final by defeating Parchment 5-1. Bronson finishes the season with a 30-10 record and an honorable mention in the final Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Division 3 poll.
The bid by Bronson’s softball team to make it back-to-back appearances at the State Finals ended with a 2-1 lodd to Webberville in the Regional Final game. In the Regional Semifinal games at Leslie, Bronson defeated Laingsburg 6-2, while Webberville shut out Parchment 3-0.
