BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The driver of a pickup truck had to be flown out after crashing head on into a tree early Saturday morning west of Bronson.
Bronson Fire Chief Brent Wilber says the accident happened just after midnight at 1134 West Chicago Road. He says the pickup rolled onto its side after crashing into the tree. That caused the 26-year-old driver to be pinned inside.
The unidentified driver was pinned by the dash and the steering wheel. Bronson firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life and other equipment to free him.
A landing zone for the Air Care helicopter was set up on U.S. 12 just west of Deer Park Road. The injured man was flown to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Michigan State Police, Bronson Police and Life Care paramedics were also called to the scene. U.S. 12 had to be shut down for over an hour.
