COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report released on Thursday morning shows a smaller part of Branch County is now in an area that is considered “abnormally dry” due to the lack of rainfall over the last couple of months.
Just the northeast corner of Branch County is now in that area after it included the eastern half of the county last week.
This weeks survey shows the abnormally dry area includes the northern half of Hillsdale County, most of Calhoun County and all of Jackson County.
The extremely dry conditions have forced some communities in the Lansing area to issue burning bans.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is considering a ban on fireworks. Professional fireworks shows would not be affected.
