COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Courthouse abruptly shut its doors for the remainder of the day following safety threats made against the complex and county team members.
Deputy County Administrator Jessica Miller announced the sudden closure, confirming that the safety of the staff and the integrity of the buildings were the primary reasons for the evacuation.
Despite the interruption, county officials remain hopeful that the scheduled 4:30 p.m. Board of Commissioners meeting, which includes a highly anticipated public hearing on the 2027 county budget, will still convene if law enforcement issues an official “all clear.”
The unexpected disruption quickly rippled through downtown Coldwater, creating a spillover effect that has forced surrounding businesses and The Branch District Library to adjust their operations.
So far neither the Branch County Sheriff’s Department or the Coldwater Police Department have released any information regarding the nature of the threats or how they were received.
