LITCHFIELD, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan South Central Power Agency has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Oregon-based Blade and Blade Demolition and Recovery to tear down the Endicott Generating Station. Agency General Manager Glen White made the announcement during the agency’s annual meeting last week in Marshall.
White says a more definitive agreement will be put into place over the next several weeks. While not releasing details, White says the initial discussions indicate a positive number, not a cost as projected.
If everything works out, demolition is expected to begin later this year.
White said there have been several rumors about the possible repowering of the Litchfield site but there is nothing solid at this time after some discussions were held. White added that even if something comes to fruition, the majority of the existing structure will have to be removed.
The Litchfield plant stood down on May 26th after 34 years of operation. It was announced last year that competition with larger power producers, the potential for tighter environmental regulations and retiring workforce challenges were among the reasons for the closing.
MSCPA members include Coldwater, Union City, Marshall, Hillsdale and Clinton.
