COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two Branch County businesses have been awarded Match on Main grants from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
Glo Studio in Coldwater and Shaundra’s Hair Chair were among 69 small businesses across Michigan who were announced as grant winners on Tuesday.
Over $1-and-a-half million in grants were awarded statewide according to a press release from the M.E.D.C..
Shaundra’s Hair Chair will receive $20,225 for the activation of underutilized space while Glo Studio will get $22,668.
Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Director Kristen Johnson said during Wednesday’s D.D.A. meeting on Wednesday that Glo Studio will use the money to purchase equipment, a sound system and other items for their business. It was the third time Glo Studio has applied for a Match on Main grant.
The state-funded Match on Main initiative is designed to support new and expanding downtown small businesses. Eligible local entrepreneurs can apply for up to $25,000 in reimbursement-based funding to cover various business expenses.
The program requires awardees provide a 10 percent match as well as a commitment to foster long-term investment and growth within the community.
