COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A longtime history buff and co-founder of the Civil War Days in Coldwater has died. Larry Hoffman, 77, of Coldwater passed away Monday, July 18 at his daughter’s home in Ohio after a 10 year battle with cancer.
In addition to helping found the annual Civil War Days held every Memorial Day weekend in Coldwater, Hoffman was instrumental in having a memorial to aviator Harriet Quimby erected at the Branch County Memorial Airport. Quimby, who is believed to spent some of her childhood in the Quincy area, was the first female to fly solo across the English Channel.
Family of Larry Hoffman will receive friends at the First Baptist Church Monday, July 25 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held at First Baptist Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
