COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater will acquire a 15-acre parcel of land on Western Avenue just off of State Street from former Mayor Bob Rumsey and his wife Phyllis following action on Monday night by the Coldwater City Council.
The property will be purchased for $6,600 per acre or around $99,000 for the whole parcel.
The purchase was approved on an 8-0 roll call vote with Councilman Travis Machan absent.
Mayor Tom Kramer says the city will look to eventually sell the land to a developer seeking to build affordable housing on the property.
The council also approved a design development services agreement for the Heritage Park Splash Pad with PM Blough Incorporated of Grand Haven. Assistant City Manager Keith Baker says it should be ready by next summer.
Under terms of a state grant, the city is required to have a designated design professional to assist in preparation and review of the final design. The city plans to bid the spray equipment which will allow manufacturers to submit their own designs.
