COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Battle Creek man who was caught trying to sell heroin to a Coldwater Police Department confidential informant last April was told to serve between 46 months and 40 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
24-year-old Kasheen Kellis entered a no contest plea to delivering heroin second offense as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. In turn, two other charges were dismissed as well as an habitual offender sentencing enhancement.
Kellis is looking at the maximum term of 40 years because he is a second time drug offender. He was given credit for 195 days already served in the Branch County Jail where his bond was $1 million.
Police say the transaction involved less than two grams of drugs.
While Kellis apologized for his actions, Branch County Prosecutor Ralph Kimball accused the defendant of “dealing death in our county” and pointed out this was Kellis’ fifth felony conviction.
