Janet K. Watson, 81, of Coldwater, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Beacon Hospital in Kalamazoo.
A service will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Isaac Tyson officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Lawrence Wilson Cemetery.
Janet was born February 9, 1945, to George and Virginia June (Barrack) VanKampen in Coldwater. She married John E. Watson on May 31, 1969, in Girard.
Janet devoted her life to caring for others. She began her nursing career as a Registered Nurse at St. Lawrence Hospital, where she worked for one year before joining the Coldwater Community Health Center. For the next 40 years, she faithfully served her patients and community with skill, empathy, and unwavering commitment until her retirement in 2007. Janet was a proud member of the Michigan Nurses Association and found great fulfillment in helping others throughout her distinguished career.
Outside her profession, Janet held many other interests and hobbies throughout her life. She absolutely loved to read, from regular books to her Kindle. Reading and books gave her great joy. She was also an avid sports fan who loved watching and following the Detroit Tigers, Lions and anything MSU. Earlier in life she enjoyed cross stitching, gardening, auction sales and antiques. Later in life, she enjoyed birdwatching and interior design. However, her greatest joy of all was her love of family.
Janet is survived by her husband, John Watson; her children, Sean Watson of Coldwater and Shane Watson of Coldwater; siblings Mary Gale of Burlington, Susan Smith of Union City, and James (Mary Ann) VanKampen of Montgomery; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and June VanKampen.
