COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A record breaking season led to a record number of All State honors for members of the Coldwater boys varsity soccer team. Senior Mana Ahmed, who broke the school record for varsity career goals with 61, was named Second Team All State for the second straight year by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Juniors Jonathon Brownell and Mohamed Nagi, along with sophomore goalkeeper Balal Nasser, were also named All State Honorable Mention. The selections were announced at Monday night’s team awards banquet.
Ahmed, Brownell, Nagi, and Nasser were also named All District and All Region. Also named to the All District Team were Faheem Abdullah, Ben Fagen, Anthony Nunnally, and Shuaib Aljabaly.
Named to the Interstate 8 All Conference Team were Mana Ahmed, Jonathon Brownell, Mohamed Nagi, Balal Nasser, and Faheem Abdullah. Shuaib Aljabaly was named Interstate 8 Honorable Mention.
Ben Fagen was selected Interstate 8 All Academic.
In awards voted on by the players, Anthony Nunnally and Faheem Abdullah were selected as Best Defensive Players, Mana Ahmed and Jonathon Brownell as Best Offensive Players, Mohamed Saleh and Nunnally as Most Improved, sophomore Saleh as Rookie of the Year, Faheem Abdullah as Hardest Worker, and Mana Ahmed as Most Valuable Player. Cameron Barnes also received The Cardinal Way Coach’s Award.
The Cardinals finished the season at 18-3-1, breaking the school record for wins. They also allowed the fewest goals in school history with 13, including not allowing a goal in conference play. Coldwater was ranked #7 in the final MIHSSCA Division 2 Poll.
