UNION CITY (WTVB) – The Village of Union City has officially launched its annual leaf pickup program, advising residents to rake leaves directly to the edge of the road while strictly keeping them out of the roadway and off the asphalt.
Depositing leaves on the asphalt disrupts operations and will prompt a visit from the Union City Police Department (UCPD) to enforce immediate removal.
Furthermore, crews will only collect leaves; mixing in sticks or branches can damage or slow down the vacuum equipment, which may result in a household’s pile being left behind.
With only one truck covering 18 miles of roadway, officials are asking for community patience as they navigate a set rotation across all neighborhoods.
Calling village offices will not expedite the process, and scheduling delays may occur due to weather, mechanical issues, or other municipal emergencies.
However, the village guarantees that all properly placed leaves will be collected, provided they are out by the curb before the official end date, which is typically announced in late November.
