COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan’s annual firearm deer hunting season opens Tuesday. As usual in the days before the hunt, law enforcement officials are busy handling numerous car-deer accidents and they tend to come in bunches. Most are reported in the pre-dawn darkness or right after sunset.
Four were reported on Sunday evening between 6:00 p.m and 6:30 p.m. in Branch County.
Five car-deer crashes were reported around Branch County Friday evening between 5:55 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.
Michigan’s firearm deer season will run through November 30th and it has a huge economic impact on the state.
It’s estimated nearly 750,000 hunters will be in the woods around Michigan and they are expected to spend about $2.3 billion.
