ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – Indiana State Police say six people from Cleveland were involved in a fatal crash on the Indiana Toll Road in Steuben County Sunday afternoon.
The fatal victim was identified as 32-year-old Johnay Miller who was seated in the back. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office after being ejected from the vehicle.
State Police say according to their preliminary investigation, 27-year-old Kevin L. Whipple was traveling east in the area of the 142 mile marker, when it’s believed he may have fallen asleep at the wheel and drove off the road.
The vehicle then struck a guardrail before rolling onto its driver side.
Whipple was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne by the Samaritan Helicopter and is listed in critical condition.
Four others from the vehicle were taken to an unnamed local hospital. 53-year-old Jerome Sanders is listed in stable condition. The other three were treated and released.
