COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to move forward with an animal control shelter project that is not to exceed $600,000.
Hillsdale County Commissioners have not made a final decision on being a partner in the project which calls for a new shelter to be built next to the Branch County Jail.
A tentative 10 year proposal would have Hillsdale County pay a total of $200,000 at $40,000 a year increments for the first five years.’ The money from Hillsdale County would be used for capitalization of the building
County Administrator Bud Norman says Hillsdale County Commissioners want something in writing for their next meeting and that talks are continuing.
Insurance proceeds from the fire in May of 2015 which heavily damaged the old shelter near Quincy will pay for about half of the current costs.
Commissioner Rod Olney said some concerns about the costs associated with the project were brought up during Monday nights’ Township Supervisors meeting. But it has been pointed out the shelter has to be built to Department of Agriculture standards.
In other business on Tuesday, the Commissioners formally accepted a bid of $38,200 from Hoesktra Roofing of Kalamazoo to replace the northwest section of the Branch County Jail roof.
