ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A citizen who reported suspicious activity early Thanksgiving morning around some storage units near Angola is being given credit for the apprehension of three persons including a juvenile after a dozen of the storage units were broken into.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says they were called just before 1:00 am on a report of a suspicious vehicle and two persons walking around with a pair of bolt cutters in the area of the Corner 200 Storage Units. Officers found a pickup truck parked between two storage buildings with numerous items in the bed.
They also saw several storage units with cut padlocks lying beside the unit doors. A man came out of one of the units and surrendered. Two other suspects were found inside other nearby storage units.
Two Fremont residents, 19 year old Braxton Easton and 18 year old Stephanie Hartley, along with a 17 year old boy were apprehended.
Investigators say 12 storage units were burglarized. Easton and Hartley were booked into the Steuben County Jail on 12 counts of burglary which is a level 5 felony in Indiana. The juvenile was placed by Steuben County Probation at a juvenile detention facility.
Angola Police Department and the Indiana State Police assisted during the investigation.
