LANSING, MI (WTVB) – As expected, the Green Party filed petitions in Lansing Wednesday for a recount of the Presidential race in Michigan.
The Michigan Secretary of State’s office is estimating the actual cost of doing the recount will be close to $2 million.
County clerks around Michigan will be expected pay the costs up front and then get a partial reimbursement later.
Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak was out of the office and unavailable for comment Wednesday.
County Republican Party Chair Dennis Armstrong has sent out an email requesting volunteers who he said will be needed daily from 8:30 a.m.until 7:00 p.m.
Armstrong added the recount in Branch County will take place in the courthouse annex conference room. The final schedule has not been determined but it may not start until next week as larger counties will have to start as early as Friday.
More than 17,000 Branch County ballots have to be counted by hand. The statewide recount has to be done by December 12 or December 13, 2016.
Donald Trump carried Michigan by just over 10,000 votes. He carried Branch County by an over 2-1 margin as he collected 11,786 votes compared to 5,061 votes for Hillary Clinton.
