COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A decision by the Coldwater Planning Commission on the controversial proposed rezoning of the old Franklin School property has been postponed for two weeks.
Interim City Manager Keith Baker says due to the lack of a quorum for the February 6 meeting, the meeting has been rescheduled for Monday, February 20, 2017. He says a number of commission members are unable to attend on the February 6 and they want a full board present to consider the rezoning issues.
NRP Properties has expressed an interest in buying the property for $425,000 from Coldwater Community Schools in hopes of putting in a housing development. NRP is asking to rezone the property from A-1 One Family Residential to A-3 Multi Family Residential.
But angry nearby residents have expressed their displeasure about the proposal in recent weeks. Nearly 50 opponents packed the City Council chambers for the last Planning Commission meeting over three weeks ago.
The Coldwater City Council got an earful for over 15 minutes from opponents of the project on Monday night.
The Planning Commission put off a decision earlier this month on the rezoning request after they requested additional information. Their recommendation would then go to the City Council for their consideration.
