OVID TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – It has been two weeks since the Ovid Township Hall in Branch County was destroyed by fire. The cause of the blaze, which broke out just before midnight on March 1, has still not been determined.
The Ovid Township Hall opened in 2005. Even though it’s gone, township business continues to be conducted. Kinderhook Township has allowed the Ovid Township Board to meet in its hall for as long as necessary. Their next meeting is scheduled for April 10, 2017.
No decisions have been made yet for the location of a temporary office.
Ovid Township Supervisor Greg Gemmill says they are in good shape with the insurance and they will be gathering bids soon for the demolition of the burned out building.
Gemmill says one builder optimistically said if everything works out, a new building at the same location could be ready for the November elections.
It’s not known if files could be saved because of the condition the file cabinets were in.
