COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Bethel Township man entered no contest pleas to three charges in Branch County Circuit Court Monday after he allegedly set fire to his trailer and resisted police December 28, 2016.
27-year-old Caleb Campbell entered the pleas to second degree arson as well as to two counts of assaulting a police officer. A misdemeanor charge will be dismissed in exchange for the pleas.
Judge Bill O’Grady scheduled sentencing for May 8, 2017.
Michigan State Police say Campbell allegedly set his Block Road trailer on fire and he was also accused of resisting efforts to be handcuffed by State Police and Branch County Sheriff’s deputies. A State Police trooper suffered a minor injury during a brief struggle.
State Police said in a press release that Campbell allegedly made statements to Branch County Central Dispatch about using the police to commit suicide during the incident.
