COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners are scheduled during their work session on Tuesday morning to decide whether or not to bring forward to Friday’s regular meeting a resolution that would allow the county to apply for a state natural resources grant that would help fund the purchase of a 25 acre campground on Randall Lake.
The proposed application is supported by the county’s five year Parks and Recreation plan.
The grant of just over $403,000 would cover 74 percent of the projects cost. The county’s share would be just under $142,000.
The Branch County Park Trustees have recommended the Commissioners authorize the county to submit the application.
The county has an opportunity to buy the existing 25 acre private campground off of Union City Road. The property includes 65 campsites. Plans call for the county to take over the campground and continue operating it with the existing facilities.
The property would also be fixed up by the county. Work would include the removal of some old trailers as well as mowing, weeding, removing debris and fixing docks.
